I was hoping that this game would have a 1:1 feel to it, if I sliced the player would slice, but no. I’ve played tennis for about 15 years, so I know how to hit a slice, top spin, etc. Honestly, I can’t tell the difference when you select MotionPlus or normal, and yes I do have the MotionPlus attached. Also whenever you start an exhibition game the default is normal mode even if you have the MotionPlus attached. That’s not only where this game fails, when you’re ready to serve or return you have to hold your cursor over a number 1 for player 1 before you can serve or return. This gets more annoying when you have more players as every one of the players has to hold their cursor over their player number. This is also fun, I can swing the Wiimote 5 seconds before the ball arrives and it swings right on time. How am I going to learn if it corrects my mistake? Wii Sports tennis feels more accurate than this game. It really feels like they rushed this game to come out in time with the MotionPlus.

    Cons:

    not 1:1, poor MotionPlus support

    annoying interface

    very inaccurate

    Pros:

    I rented the game

    it runs on the Wii

EA Sports: Grand Slam Tennis is out

  3. Virtua Tennis 2009 is pretty close to playing tennis.I played for two hours. I lost only my first match. Play in the on line mode is a fantastic experience. You will love it!

  4. Very fun for the entire family. Great graphics and the motionplus just adds to the enjoyment.

  5. The interface is horrible. There are more buttons to press than Wii Fit to get to what you want to do, and you have to synchronise the Motion Plus on _every_ point. The character movement is flawed: in tennis academy almost every time I was served on the right side of the court my character would just run to the right too far to hit the ball. I finally put the Nunchuk in to control it– to just stop the player from running away– and managed to pass the sequence. Also, since Tiger Woods can recognize when I’m using the Motion Plus, how come I have to tell this game before everything I do– and wait for a screen to load to tell me that I’ve selected the Motion Plus. Every time, even while trying to get back and try the same exercise again.

Worst of all, (once you tell it, again, that you are indeed using it) the Motion Plus control stinks. It seems like random chance whether it thinks I am doing a slice or not, no matter how many times I try or how many different types of “swing the remote downwards while pointing the buttons up” I try. Tiger Woods 10 seems to have nailed it– perhaps the Motion Plus was just tacked on at the end of development with this game as some comment I read suggested.

It is a good workout, but more frustrating than fun at this point. I should have rented it or bought Grand Slam tennis.
